Portfolios with cover letters due! Please use the handouts: check off everything to be sure you don't miss little things. Be neat and tidy. Label everything clearly.
Your visual arguments are also due; be prepared to present them in class. I will be available Thursday during my office hours if you need last minute help.

Visual arguments due. You will be viewing and critiquing one another's work, so be sure to have a way to display your piece on one of the laptops in the classroom. Portfolios with cover letter are due one week from today, Dec. 7th.

No homework per se. But we will be doing one last round of editing. It is "expert day." Whatever style tool you presented, be prepared to read others' work and focus on your style tool. It will be a busy hour. Also bring all drafts for which you would like editing help. It's the last time you'll have help from the class. Wednesday your visual arguments are due. Then the following Monday your portfolios and cover letters are due. Handouts for EVERYTHING are on the handouts page, so there are no excuses. Have a wonderful break.

Nothing specific due. But you should have a good idea of what you want your visual argument to be so that we don't waste time in class. If you have the urge to get ahead, start collecting images. And, of course--keep writing!!!!! (and editing).

This is the very last day I will take any drafts from Unit 2: your rhetorical analysis of an article (paper 3) and your article based on your research (paper 4). Please get me these drafts!!

Please bring in photos, snapshots, pictures of yourself, family, friends, etc. They must be pictures you can tell a story about.

Rough draft of paper #5 (visual analysis) is due. Bring copies for workshop. Remember: this is an analysis, not a description: think RHETORICALLY. Use the terms from the photo analysis handout or the film analysis Pp--keep your analysis focused. And you must have a THESIS as well. Also bring revisions of your rhetorical analysis of a magazine or newspaper article for me if you have them.

Vocabulary #7 is due. Also please look through the PowerPoint on visual rhetoric (in "handouts") if you missed class. Begin writing your analysis--rough draft due Friday

Please read the Unit 3 handout if you were absent. Bring a bunch of pictures, photographs, etc. to class. Have a great break.

First rough draft of your newspaper or magazine article is due. Remember to use Word to its fullest potential by making it look just like it would in the mag. or news. Make sure you have headlines/titles, bylines, dates, press, pictures with captions, columns, etc.
Vocabulary 6 is also due (remember to make good use of these fabulous words y'all are finding!)

Please bring in an article--newpaper or magazine, whichever you're doing--that you think works as a good model for you. Also bring to class some piece of earlier writing you have done for this class--like paper one or two.
FOR WED. OCT 14
Please read the articles on the handout page. Then vote for "newspaper" or "magazine" and in the discussion thread explain your reasoning.

Rough draft of paper 3 (rhetorical analysis) due!! Please bring three hard copies to class for your peers. A guideline to help you get through this is on the "handouts" page.

1. Proof of completed research due! Just something you can show me and I can check off to let me know you have it done.
2. Vocab. 4 is due.
3. Read the article "Mag or News" on the readings page and respond briefly on the discussion tab.
4. Keep in mind that your rhetorical analysis draft is due Friday so if you need to get started writing you'll want to do so.

Please bring in Newspaper and Magazine articles for analysis, especially those that are from the venue in which you would like to publish. Your research needs to be complete and you cannot research until I have approved your research questions, so email them to me and I will make a point to check my email regularly and get back to you ASAP.
FOR FRI. OCT. 2
Please respond to both the Waters and Johnson articles "Watching TV" and "Life According to TV" in the discussion tab. Revisions of assignments 1 and/or 2 are due. We will be workshopping, so please bring to class extra copies of your revisions for students to work on and to turn in to me. The last day I will look at revisions of 1 and 2 is Fri, Oct 16 (2 weeks).

2) Research proposals due: a topic, what research methods you plan to use, what questions you'll ask, and the ultimate answers you'd like to be able to discuss in the article you will eventually write.

4) Keep revising: drafts for peers and me of both papers 1 and 2 due Friday

Three things: 1) Please fill out the workshop sheets for the two essays you got from your peers and be prepared for workshop on Monday. 2) Read Lasn's "The Cult You're In" on the readings page and respond under the discussion tab. 3) Have a topic for your research for me Monday as well (if you were absent, please read the Unit 2 handout). Rough draft of 1st essay due. Please bring 3 hard copies to class. 2-3 pages (each, obviously). I have posted several "My Turn" essays on the "Readings" page for you to look at as samples of this genre. Keep the class theme of "Perspectives" in mind. The activity in class was meant to get you thinking about the ways people see you based on specific things.
Also read and respond to Selzer's "Brute" for Friday. (I'm having trouble finding a scanner--I'll post it as soon as I can. If it is not up by Thursday afternoon, you do not have to read and respond.)
